Job Description Summary
Perform manual and equipment operation work handling and sorting materials at the Material Recovery Facility (MRF).
Essential Job Functions
•Perform manual labor in the handling of materials at the Material Recovery Facility, including loading and sorting.

•Open and sort blue bags of commingled containers; sort loose commingled fiber or container products by category.

•Ensure the quality of products by removing all non-recyclable material and trash from the line.

•Maintain quantitative performance in a continuous feed conveyor capacity.

•Operate and maintain environmental control systems, including pumps.
Ancillary Job Functions
•Perform janitorial tasks in the general housekeeping of the MRF, including sweeping and cleaning floors, maintaining facility grounds, and disposing of trash.

•Perform various laboring and semi-skilled tasks such as operating equipment.

•Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered
•High school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position
•Considerable knowledge of recycling operations.

•Considerable knowledge of safety standards and precautions pertaining to the use and operation of motorized equipment and hand/power tools.

•Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

•Ability to work cooperatively with and communicate effectively with other employees.

•Must have reliable transportation to and from work facility.

•Ability to perform work in a deliberate manner, differentiating between desired and undesirable materials, remaining aware of surroundings, and working safety.

•Ability to read and understand MRF Operation and Procedural Manual.

•Must maintain the ability to have concentrated attention to detail.
Work Environment – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job
•May be exposed to wet/humid conditions, extreme temperatures, oils, airborne particles/fumes, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, sharp objects, or potentially hazardous bodily fluids.

•Exposed to moderate to loud noise levels.

•Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.

•Ability to bend, stoop, reach, twist, dig, climb/balance, grasp, push, feel attributes of objects, drive, and operate mechanical equipment.

•Must be able to have repetitive wrist, hand, and/or finger movement.

•Must have the ability to identify and distinguish colors, and precise hand-eye coordination.

•May be required to lift up to 75 pounds.

•Must be able to climb stairs.

•Must have full range of vision.

•Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
